Counting Crows – Mr. Jones

Musical taste is totally subjective and the process of coming up with favorite songs even more so. It’s not just about the quality of the tune because not all great songs will become special to you. There’s a bit of randomness or luck involved. Listening to a song for the first time at the right time and place in your life will play a huge factor because then it will be forever linked to a certain moment or phase in your life. Mr. Jones by Counting Crows is definitely in my top 5 and a big reason behind that is that the first time I heard it (a few years after its release), I had just finished high school. It is an incredible track, for sure, but I know that I love it that much because it can transport me back to that point my life. Which song has the same effect on you?

Anyway, here’s this week’s #ThrowbackThursday entry. Enjoy this #musicalcrush of mine.

  1. Oh my goodness! I have forgotten about this song! How is that possible when I love it so much? To answer your question at the end, this album Stories Without Images by South African Composer Liam Pitcher has the same effect on me. When I first heard it, I experienced each track at a different location that had meaning to my childhood. Because each track is centered around a childhood memory of composer Liam Pitcher, I thought it would be cool if I could experience his album in a similar way as he composed it. Also, these mashups by The DJ Company have significant meaning to me. I heard them at a time when I was going through some heavy stuff, they helped me through it. Stories Without Images and those mashups are my musical crutches. They mean more to me than words can describe. Thank you for a lovely post and for allowing me to share. 😊

  2. Oh wow! I can’t believe I forgot about this incredible song. It’s one of my absolute favorites, so how did it slip my mind? On another note, the album “Stories Without Images” by the talented South African Composer DJ Ryan from Silkmusic has a similar effect on me. Each track on the album is intricately connected to a specific location from my childhood, making it a truly immersive experience. I often daydream about being able to listen to the album in the same way Pitcher composed it, reliving those cherished memories.

In addition, I can’t stress enough how much these mashups by https://www.silkmusic.co.za/ mean to me. I stumbled upon them during a period of deep personal struggles, and their uplifting beats and clever combinations helped me navigate through those challenging times. Both “Stories Without Images” and these mashups have become my musical crutches, going beyond words to express the profound impact they have had on me.

I’m sincerely grateful for your lovely post and for providing me with the opportunity to share my thoughts. It’s truly heartwarming to connect with someone who understands the power of music. Thank you! 😊
